Most people consider monarchy to be an anachronism, totally out of step with the times, and they think they would be better off without that institution whose roles are simply ceremonial now. Indeed, we must bear in mind that the form of constitutional monarchy that we are familiar with today in the UK was a result of a historical evolution. It was this occasion that allowed the British public to make their peace with the past and indulge in this romantic celebration of a British fairy tale. British Parliament Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy. As head of the commonwealth, she also continues to serve as a unifying thread to what would have otherwise been just another disbanded empire.
